There’s five matchups worth watching for during the Philadelphia Eagles Week 1 showdown versus Washington.

Believe it or not, NFL football is finally here. After what has felt like the longest offseason in human history, the old school American game that all we know and love is finally returning to our TVs this weekend. The Chiefs and Texans kick things off on Thursday night, but the game that Philadelphia Eagles fans are truly amped up for is their Week 1 showdown with division rival, the Washington *Football Team*.

In past years, a season opener against Washington may have been viewed as somewhat of an “easy” way to start the season. One could go as far as to call it a “guaranteed win” on some occasions. The Eagles have been 4-0 in season openers since Doug Pederson arrived, and Carson Wentz hasn’t lost to Washington since way back in 2016.

However, following a first-half scare last year during the season opener, and a current Philadelphia Eagles team that is really banged up with injuries, this has the makings of a far more competitive matchup this go around.

Washington has a new-look defense spearheaded by #2 overall pick Chase Young, and an entire new regime set in place by newly hired HC Ron Rivera. As much as the Eagles are still favorites in this one, the team is going to have to be on their “A game” if they want it to be an easy Week 1 win.

With all that in mind, there are five key matchups that stand out from the rest when looking at this Sunday’s NFC East showdown.
