Alec Bohm has some serious potential.

We all know rookie third baseman Alec Bohm can hit, he proved that against Patrick Corbin when he drove in two RBIs and hit a solo homer. However, for the first time this season, we saw the Phillies number one prospect flash some seriously elite defensive ability.

During the top of the fifth inning, Nats 2B Luis Garcia hit a slow tapper over towards the gap between shortstop and third. Bohm dove and extended, flagging the ball down with the tip of his glove. He then quickly popped up to his knees and delivered a picture perfect strike over to Walker at first base.

Garcia was out and Wheeler looked more than pleased with Bohm for making the hit-saving stop.

A lot of questions have been asked recently regarding Bohm’s defense, with a good chunk of people believing he’ll eventually have to make the switch over to first base or even to the DH spot permanently. However, Girardi has been letting Bohm figure things out over at the hot corner and he’s looked better and better each day.

While it’s just one great play, it showcased the athletic potential that Bohm has to stick at 3B.

The Philadelphia Phillies will take on the Washington Nationals yet again on Thursday night, as RHP Zach Eflin will take the mound against veteran Anibal Sanchez. Eflin looked phenomenal during his last start, and another outing like that would easily help the Phils secure the series sweep.
