Winner: Joe Ostman, DE

Joe Ostman was a really exciting player to watch during last year’s offseason process. He became somewhat famous amongst Eagles fans for how much he dominated Jordan Mailata during scrimmages and drills, and looked like he was in line for at least some sort of roster consideration.

Ostman was signed to the Eagles as an UDFA back in 2018, and had really done a lot in terms of developing as a potential rotational edge. The coaching staff really liked what they were seeing during the early summer of 2019, and some reports even had him flat out making last year’s 53-man.

Unfortunately, Ostman tore his ACL in early August, and would proceed to miss the entirety of the 2019 NFL season. The Eagles did however opt to bring him back to the practice squad, and he’s pretty much picked up right where he left off ever since returning from injury.

Ostman continues to dominate Mailata pretty much any chance he gets, he’s had some really nice reps against Dillard, and he’s pretty thoroughly outplayed his respective DE competition. Shareef Miller has done little in the way of looking like an actual fourth-round pick quality player, and DE/OLB hybrid Genard Avery was just carted off due to injury during Wednesday’s session.

It would likely take a lot for the Eagles to bite the bullet and cut Miller heading into the regular season, but at the very least Ostman has done his part in terms of making it a very tough decision. The 25 year old DE has looked impressive, and that’s all you can ever ask of guys during camp.
