Carson Wentz’ security blanket.

We’ve all heard this phrase coined before when talking about Ertz, but the veteran tight end truly is Carson Wentz’ ultimate “security blanket”. The Eagles quarterback has endlessly relied on Ertz’ ability to get open and create separation, and without him, there’s a half decent chance Wentz wouldn’t look as elite.

Ertz has led the Eagles in receptions in each of Wentz’ four seasons, and has ranked at least second on the team in terms of total targets. A majority of the offense is structured around finding Ertz in open space, and taking that away from Wentz just a few years into his career could prove disastrous.

Tom Brady is without question the best quarterback in NFL history, and even he still had/has Rob Gronkowksi to lean on during sticky situations. Joe Montana had Jerry Rice, Peyton Manning had Reggie Wayne, etc etc etc.

Pretty much every quarterback across NFL history had some sort of top target that he could trust no matter the situation, and that’s what Ertz is/will be for Wentz moving forward. Like previously mentioned, Ertz is still just 29 years old, and has plenty more to give in terms of production down the road.

Tight ends tend to age well, and Ertz and Wentz should be able to combine for years worth of wins moving forward.
