The Philadelphia Phillies can still save their season.

Despite securing a much needed victory against the Atlanta Braves on Sunday night, the Philadelphia Phillies season has undoubtedly gotten off to a rough stretch. They’re 10-14, and sit dead last in the NL East (plus their bullpen has straight up been the worst in MLB history).

However, all hope is not lost quite yet. There’s still plenty of games left to be played, and even if the Phillies don’t go on to win a World Series this year, there are still certain scenarios that can occur that would set the team up for success moving forward into 2021.

With that said, here are the three main ways the Phillies can save their current 2020 campaign:

Just win some games.

It’s obviously easier said than done (especially with this current roster), but the Phillies are legitimately still in the playoff race. Despite being in last place in their division, they’re just 4.0 games back from the first place Braves following their most recent win, and only 2.0 games behind the second place Marlins.

Considering the fact that the MLB expanded the postseason this year, scraping by at .500 is likely good enough to get you a Wild Card bid. Only six teams in the NL even have winning records at the moment (a lot of teams have struggled with consistency due to the wonky season), so the current standard is really not all that high.

The Phillies offense has been complete dynamite this year, as they’ve poured in high levels of runs at a pretty consistent rate. The main reason they’ve lost so many games this season is primarily due to their bullpen. Matt Klentak added three new relievers earlier this week via trade, and if they can just pitch at an average level, that would likely be enough to push the team back around the .500 mark.

Steal a few wins here and there and the Phils are sneaking their way back into the postseason come October.
