Josh Perkins

Josh Perkins had some really nice plays filling in for Zach Ertz down the stretch in 2019. A 6-4 tight end who has commonly been referred to as a “big slot receiver”, Perkins has routinely flashed some serious ability in the passing game.

However, the Philadelphia Eagles went out of their way to add two separate tight ends this offseason, which definitely puts Perkins job in jeopardy.

The first was undrafted rookie free agent Noah Togiai. A tight end for Oregon State during college, Togiai stands at an impressive 6-4 and 246lbs. He was praised for his athleticism during the pre-draft process, and has a healthy basketball-playing background (was actually recruited to play college b-ball).

Togiai was handed an eye-popping $100K in guaranteed money as part of his UDFA contract with the Eagles, which definitely bodes well for his playing career in Philadelphia.

The second TE that the team brought in was that of former Arizona Cardinal Caleb Wilson. A seventh-round pick in the 2019 NFL draft, Wilson was a very promising receiving TE coming out of college. He was claimed off waivers by the Eagles just over two weeks ago, and could absolutely sneak his way onto the roster this season.

With so much added competition in the TE room this year, Perkins could see himself relegated to a practice squad role come September, despite his impressive play during last year’s regular season finale.
