Justin Braun

Now I know this is not the “sexiest” name I could have included on this list, but when it comes to under the radar, Justin Braun fits like a glove.

With 84 career playoff games entering this postseason, the Flyers will be looking to a guy like Braun as a steadying presence on the back end. That is exactly what he was all year for the Orange and Black.

When the Flyers traded a second and third round pick for Braun from the San Jose Sharks last June, this was the exact thought process behind the move. The team wanted a veteran defensemen with a ton of playoff experience to help lead the teams through uncharted waters. While he has never been a flashy player, Braun has always been steady.

While not offering much in terms of offense (3 goals 16 assists this season), Braun is crucial to the success of the penalty kill and has been a huge reason why the Flyers have been able to run all three defensive pairings this season, something they haven’t been able to do in a long time.

On the final year of his deal with Philadelphia, it will be interesting to see what the team inevitably decides to do with the veteran defensemen. Considering all the youth they have on the blue line, it would not be surprising to see the Flyers move on. However, for the time being, he is set to play a a big role for the Orange and Black.

While you won’t hear his name an awful lot, it is comforting to know Braun will be there, blocking shots and keeping things even keeled on the backend for the Philadelphia Flyers.
