Have you ever watched the movie Draft Day? In it, Kevin Costner’s fictional Cleveland Browns‘ GM character, Sonny Weaver Jr., writes down the name of his favorite prospect in the draft, and promises to select said player ‘No matter what’.

The movie is admittedly pretty bad, but it’s a fun, totally unbiased, look into a day in the life of an NFL GM, even if the plot is borderline nonsense.

Jalen Reagor is my ‘No matter what’ player in this year’s class.

Now sure, is he the best receiver around? No. Are there scenarios where a player like Justin Jefferson, Henry Ruggs III, or even Jerry Jeudy drop to the Birds at 21 and they are deemed too good to pass up? Not many, but some. However, if I were to simulate the draft 100 times, Reagor would still come out the pick 75 percent of the time.

Let me tell you why.

Reagor is a do-it-all deep threat who was severely limited in 2019 because of the potent combination of bad quarterback play and unimaginative scheming. Had his 2018 quarterback, Shawn Robinson, not transferred to Missouri, Reagor very well may be in the conversation with CeeDee Lamb, Ruggs, and Jeudy as the top-tier pass-catchers in this year’s class.

Reagor has a pension for stacking cornerbacks at the top of his routes, making trick catches, and turning them into massive gains in space when deployed out of the slot.

As a rookie, Reagor could immediately ‘slot’ in as the Eagles’ starting slot receiver and backup Y receiver, and could eventually replace DeSean Jackson as the team’s deep threat on the outside.
