As great as it would be to acquire Kris Bryant, this sounds like too much of a long shot for the Philadelphia Phillies.

From a talent perspective, it’s easy to understand why there was plenty of excitement surrounding the Philadelphia Phillies fan base after Joel Sherman from the MLB Network proposed a blockbuster trade to send the Kris Bryant to the City of Brotherly Love.

But all things considered, while Bryant would certainly provide the Phillies with a major upgrade at the position, in the long run, this seems like it would be too much for Philadelphia.

First off, the proposed trade by Sherman would never happen in a million years since the Cubs are too smart to give up Bryant and Jason Heyward in a deal that saw Jean Segura and Jay Bruce in return, meaning this factor alone should void this potential deal.

Talent wise, Bryant has worked his way into becoming a top third baseman across the league over the years, and Chicago fans will forever be grateful for the role he played a few years ago in helping the team break their World Series curse.

So with this in mind, this would seem like a no brainer for the Phillies if Bryant were to become available, right?

Well, when taking into consideration what it would cost to keep Bryant around for the long run on top of other positions such as pitching that Philadelphia should be spending money on, this seems like a move the Phillies should pass on.

After opening up the checkbook this past season for Bryce Harper before eventually going on to finish in fourth place in the NL East, the pressure is certainly on for Philadelphia entering the 2020 season to make sure they live up to the high expectations this time.

In the long run, all that money invested in Harper seems like it will pay off in one of the best ways possible for the Phillies. And while the thought of Harper teaming up with someone like Bryant will put a smile on most faces of Philadelphia fans, the chances of this happening still seem slim.

Plus, the most important factor of all over this hypothetical situation is the Cubs, who would first need to agree to trade Bryant to the Phillies or any other interested team, meaning some fans should calm down for now over this potential scenario.
