Eagles desperately need Alshon Jeffery healthy enough to play Week 11
By Dan Parzych
Alshon Jeffery and the Philadelphia Eagles will be taking on the New England Patriots during Week 11.
After enjoying a much needed by week, the Philadelphia Eagles will return to action in Week 11 with the defending champions in the New England Patriots coming to town.
Despite the Patriots coming off their first loss of the season two weeks ago to the Baltimore Ravens, the Eagles realize this game will be far from easy, and will need all hands on deck, especially in the passing game.
Due to the injury surrounding DeSean Jackson taking longer to recover than originally expected, Philadelphia has struggled at times at the wide receiver position throughout the 2019 season, and if Alshon Jeffery is unable to go for Sunday, the Eagles could be in even more trouble.
Unfortunately, the Eagles No. 1 wideout is still dealing with an ankle injury suffered in Week 9 in the win over the Bears, and while Jeffery’s health long-term is always going to be the most important, no one needs to explain the importance of his presence.
First off, New England’s defense alone is going to make this one of the most difficult challenges for Philadelphia in 2019 since the unit has made a strong case for being the best at times with their impressive level of play.
The fact that Philadelphia was forced to resort to bringing Jordan Matthews back for a third stint this week shows the kind of desperation the offense is dealing with, and if Jeffery is unable to go, this could be a game that gets ugly real fast.
To say Jeffery and Zach Ertz have been doing most of the heavy lifting in the passing game for the Eagles all season would be a huge understatement since other players such as Nelson Agholor and Mack Hollins have failed to step up when needed the most.
No one needs to explain just how big of an impact Jeffery has made for Philadelphia’s offense over the last couple of years, and even though missing one game wouldn’t normally seem like that big of a deal, the 2019 season is quickly closing in.
Thanks to the Minnesota Vikings defeating the Dallas Cowboys last Sunday, the Eagles are all of a sudden in much better position to compete for the NFC East title, and will need every win possible the rest of the way to keep things close with their rivals.
So while Jeffery’s ankle getting healthy is obviously the most important factor of all, and Philadelphia will be extra cautious with the situation, here’s to hoping he finds a way to be good enough to play against New England.
Otherwise, the Eagles could be in for a brutal contest.
