Eagles will be just fine without Josh Gordon
By Dan Parzych
As much as Philadelphia Eagles fans wanted Josh Gordon, the offense will be just fine without the wideout.
With the trade deadline officially in the books, some Philadelphia Eagles fans are still frustrated over the fact that the team failed to make any big moves for a wide receiver as a result of DeSean Jackson.
Even though the veteran speedster seems close to returning, Jackson being missing in action since Week 2 has resulted in the Eagles struggling on offense at times over the last few months.
Looking back, if Philadelphia knew Jackson was going to be out this long, chances are they would have a move for another wideout a long time ago to help fill the void.
But since there’s nothing the Eagles can do about it now, all that matters is Jackson does whatever it takes to return to full strength as soon as possible to put Philadelphia in the best position possible to earn a playoff spot in the NFC.
With that being said, there were plenty of Eagles fans that were hoping the team would make a move to claim Josh Gordon off waivers from the New England Patriots before he ended up on the Seattle Seahawks Friday afternoon.
From a talent perspective, no one needs to explain just how dangerous of a receiver Gordon can be when on top of his game, but whether this move would have been worth it for Philadelphia is a different story.
While there’s every reason to believe this move will work out great for Seattle to give the offense an extra weapon for Russell Wilson to work with, it’s also difficult not to wonder why New England was willing to move on from Gordon if his talent is that good.
It would one thing if the Eagles were considering this move a few weeks ago when Jackson’s status was still up in the air, but since he finally seems to be on the verge of a return, Philadelphia will be just fine without Gordon.
Some will even try to make the case that Gordon would be a better fit than other current members of the Eagles such as Nelson Agholor and Mack Hollins, but also there’s hope the return of Jackson will finally help bring out the best in his teammates.
Either way, as long as Philadelphia’s offense finds a way to play at a high level during these final two months, this is what really matters the most.
And while the fans that wanted Gordon will continue to wonder what could have been, their main focus should be on Sunday’s game with the hope that Philadelphia takes down the Chicago Bears.
