Eagles need another breakout game from Miles Sanders in Week 9 against Bears
By Dan Parzych
After finally breaking out against the Buffalo Bills with his first career rushing touchdown, the Philadelphia Eagles would love to see a strong encore by Miles Sanders in Week 9.
Even though there was originally some concern surrounding Miles Sanders after suffering a shoulder injury against the Buffalo Bills, it appears the Philadelphia Eagles rookie will be ready to go for this weekend’s meeting with the Chicago Bears.
Back in April, the Eagles used a second-round selection on the Penn State product with the intention of him teaming up with Jordan Howard to provide Philadelphia with a dynamic duo in the backfield.
So far, the duo has worked out pretty well for the Eagles on offense since the two can help feed off one another, although Philadelphia certainly wouldn’t mind if Sanders started to make more of an impact in the ground game.
This may seem frustrating for the most part, but at least Sanders has found a way to help make up for it by being effective in the passing game.
With that being said, it was amazing to see Sanders finally make a serious impact on the ground during last weekend’s win over the Bills by finishing with 74 rushing yards on three carries, most of which came on a 65-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.
Obviously, it would have been great to see Sanders receive more than just three carries, but also keep in mind the rookie most likely would have seen more action if he wasn’t forced to leave with the shoulder injury.
But on a positive note, at least Sanders can use this breakout game as motivation to hopefully do the same on Sunday since the Eagles are going to need all of the extra help possible against a very tough Bears’ defense.
Philadelphia always knew there would be a chance they would need to be extra patient with Sanders while the rookie adjusted to playing in the NFL, and even though he hasn’t exactly lived up to the previous hype, it will all seem worth it in the long run.
The Bears certainly won’t make it easy on Sanders since their defense is one of the best in the league for a reason, but if he managed to find success against the Bills when facing a similar situation, why can’t the running back do the same in Week 9?
