The Philadelphia Flyers have gone from winning three in a row to lose two-straight games, with the latest coming Tuesday against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Last week, the Philadelphia Flyers were flying high in the NHL, as winners of three games in a row to make a surprise case over being a team on the rise in the Eastern Conference.

Even if it’s only October, when looking at how previous years have gone for the Flyers leading up to the 2019-20 season, no one needs to explain the importance of winning as many games as possible during the firth month of action in October.

After losing a tough game on the road over the weekend to the New York Islanders, Philadelphia was hoping to bounce back strong on Tuesday when facing a familiar face in the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Based off the intense rivalry between these two teams, no one needs to explain just how great it would have felt for a team like the Flyers to take down one of the best teams the Eastern Conference has to offer in the Penguins in front of their own fans.

But unfortunately, Philadelphia started off Tuesday’s game in one of the worst ways possible by trailing the Penguins 4-0 after the first period before eventually going on to lose this contest 7-1.

It would be one thing if the Flyers had put up a tough battle against their rivals, and came up just short of the win, but this game was simply just embarrassing for Philadelphia.

Between Brian Elliott allowing six of the seven goals to Sidney Crosby and Dominik Simon each finishing with one goal along with two assists, this was a night to forget for the Flyers that make it seem like this team is still a work in progress.

Clearly, it would be foolish for Philadelphia to even consider hitting the panic button since there’s still plenty of time remaining in the young season, but these are the kinds of games that could make big differences down the road if the playoff race tightens up.

As the Flyers continue to prepare for their second meeting with the New Jersey Devils on Friday, here’s to hoping the results for Philadelphia are similar to a few weeks again in which they defeated their rivals 4-0.

Otherwise, it’s only going to apply even more pressure for the Flyers heading into next week.
