Mack Hollins has been a huge disappointment for the Philadelphia Eagles so far in 2019.

When looking at the current situation for the Philadelphia Eagles at wide receiver, one would assume that someone like Mack Hollins would be able to take full advantage of the situation.

After DeSean Jackson was forced to leave in Week 2 with an injury, the Eagles originally hoped this would only be minor, and the veteran speedster would return in no time, which obviously has not been the case.

Defeating the Buffalo Bills on the road the way they did was huge for Philadelphia after suffering two tough losses in a row to the Minnesota Vikings and Dallas Cowboys, but also Jackson missing his sixth game in a row is concerning.

For weeks, one of the biggest topics of debate surrounding the Eagles has been whether the team should make a move for a wide receive before Tuesday’s trade deadline since Jackson’s status continues to be up in the air.

But also, if Philadelphia fans want to talk frustration surrounding the wide receiver position, Hollins deserves to be part of the conversation as well.

The Eagles had high expectations for Hollins back in 2017 when they decided to use a fourth-round pick on the wideout in the draft, and even though it was tough to watch him miss all of last year due to an injury, there was confidence in him taking on a larger role this year.

Since Philadelphia decided to give Hollins another chance to prove himself worthy, this opportunity on top of Jackson’s absence made it seem like the Eagles would finally see the North Carolina product step up in the passing game.

While this appeared to be the case in the middle of September after Hollins caught nine passes for 112 yards in a two-game span, the month of October turned out to be an absolute disaster for the wideout.

How on earth does this happen for a player like Hollins when the opportunities to step up have certainly been there over the last month or so?

Whatever the reasons, one thing seems certain, which is Hollins may not have what it takes to be a reliable receiver for the Eagles, and the sooner the team realizes this is a waste of time, the better for Philadelphia.

It was understandable for the Eagles wanting to give Hollins another chance to prove himself after last year, but the last thing Philadelphia can afford is to reward him with additional opportunities, only to end up disappointed each time.

There are plenty of other receivers that wold benefit in a big way from playing in an offense like the Eagles, and even though moving on from someone like Hollins would be difficult, it seems necessary at this point at the halfway mark of the regular season.
