So far, the decision to bring Brian Elliott back is paying off in a big way for the Philadelphia Flyers during the 2019-20 season.

Despite all of the potential surrounding Carter Hart in net heading into the 2019-20 season, the Philadelphia Flyers knew they still needed a backup goalie they could rely on, which is where Brian Elliott came into play.

After spending the previous two seasons with the team, and coming up big on numerous occasions, the Flyers still seemed unsure whether Elliott would be worth bringing back for a third season, especially since he will be turning 35 in the spring.

So after seeing Philadelphia make the decision towards the end of June to sign Elliott to a one-year, $2 million deal, this seemed to work out great for both parties.

Not only were the Flyers getting a key veteran that could help continue to pave the way for Hart learning at the NHL level, but also a deal like that for an experienced Elliott seemed like an absolute steal for Philadelphia.

Since it’s only the end of October, Elliott still has plenty to prove over the next couple of months in regards to showing the Flyers made the right decision, but with the veteran posting a 2-1 record so far, Philadelphia has to love what they’ve seen in net when filling in for Hart.

Most recently, Elliott helped the Flyers pull off a huge 4-1 win on the road over the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday to show once again how great of a decision it was to bring him back in the offseason.

When looking at all of the recent seasons consisting of Philadelphia coming up short of the opportunity to make a deep run at the playoffs, fans would love nothing more than to see this finally take place this year.

With the Flyers already having four wins under their belt through the first eight games of the season, if Elliott and Hart can continue playing well in net, Philadelphia may actually have a legitimate shot at being a top team to beat in the Eastern Conference.

And if this does happen, that decision by Philadelphia to sign Elliott to a favorable one-year deal will look like even more of a steal.
