The Philadelphia Phillies are reportedly hiring Joe Girardi as their new manager after two seasons with Gabe Kapler.

Ever since Gabe Kapler was let go after only two seasons, Joe Girardi was one of the names that immediately came to mind to potentially become the next manager for the Philadelphia Phillies during the 2020 season.

As difficult as it was to move on from a manager like Kapler after only two seasons with the team, this seemed like the right move for the Phillies when seeing how things played out during the 2019 season.

For a team with World Series expectations after emerging as one of the big winners from free agency highlighted by the addition of Bryce Harper, it was embarrassing to watch Philadelphia come up way short by finishing in fourth play in the NL East standings.

It may seem unfair to place most of the blame on Kapler, but since he was the one calling the shots as manager, and failed to put the Phillies in the proper position as a top contender in the National League, it only seemed fair to let him go.

And after weeks consisting of trying to figure out who could emerge as the next manager, it appears Philadelphia has found their guy in Girardi.

Even though Girardi has been out of the league since 2017, Phillies fans remember well just how effective he was all those years as manager for the New York Yankees, especially when they won the World Series during the 2019 season.

Philadelphia clearly has a few key areas in need of improvement to focus on during the offseason such as their bullpen or outfield, but at least the hiring of Girardi will put the new manager in great position as well to work with some of the current talent.

Most managers would love to be in the position Girardi finds himself in taking over a team with great talent to work with ranging from Harper to Aaron Nola, and if all goes well in 2020, the Phillies may finally become legitimate World Series contenders again.

Time will tell when it comes to seeing whether this was the right move for Philadelphia, but at least one thing is certain, which fans have plenty of reasons to be excited about what Girardi brings to the table.
