Philadelphia Eagles: 5 potential cornerback trade targets
Darryl Roberts
Another Jet the Eagles should call about is 29-year-old Darryl Roberts.
A fourth-year pro, Roberts has already tied his 2018 interception total in four regular-season games and is fast approaching the seven passes defensed and 48 total tackles he recorded last season.
While Roberts may actually cost more to acquire than his much-higher paid teammate Johnson, there’s still a lot to like about the 28-year-old. In the first year of a three-year, $18 million contract, Roberts has a base salary of a million dollars this season with $4 million guaranteed. Next season, his base salary boosts up to $5 mil with a cap hit of $6. In 2021 the base salary increases to $6.5 million and holds a cap hit of $7.5 mil. This could drive the asking price up for New York, and at 0-4, giving up a player under-contract isn’t absurd, but it should be expected that they would want the highest reasonable pick.
When it comes to Roberts, the Eagles could find themselves parting a legitimate guaranteed Day 3 pick for the Jets’ starting left side corner. While that may seem like a lot, Roberts could provide similar value as a CB2 to Darby and give the team a legitimate starting trio once Maddox returns in the slot.
