4. 49ers

Thanks to some surprise help from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 4 defeating the Los Angeles Rams, the San Francisco 49ers are currently all alone in first place when it comes to the NFC West standings.

Preventing the Los Angeles Rams and Seattle Seahawks from finishing on top certainly won’t be easy, but also the 49ers have plenty of reasons to feel confident when looking at how September went for Kyle Shanahan’s squad.

Depending on how things play out over the next few months, since the Eagles don’t actually face the 49ers in the regular season, there’s always possibility of these two teams meeting in January.

Better yet, if Philadelphia and San Francisco end up being in the mix for one of the Wild Card spots in the NFC, these two teams could end up keeping an extra eye on one another come December when the race is heating up.

Keep in mind that around this time last year, the 49ers were considered one of the potential sleeper teams in the NFC before Jimmy Garoppolo suffered a torn ACL that resulted in his season ending earlier than expected.

With Garoppolo healthy, and San Francisco off to a hot start, maybe this will finally be the year for the 49ers to make it happen in the NFC.
