The Philadelphia Flyers made a big move on Monday by announcing a new six-year deal for Travis Konecny.

With the official start of the 2019-20 season right around the corner for the Philadelphia Flyers, the team just found a way to take fan excitement to a whole new level on Monday by announcing a new deal for center Travis Konecny.

Back in 2015, the Flyers made what seemed like an easy decision to use the No. 24 overall pick on Konecny, and it wouldn’t take long for the center to make his official debut in Philadelphia shortly after by appearing in 70 games during the 2016-17 season.

Like most young players, Konecny saw plenty of ups and downs during his first year of action after finishing with 11 goals and 17 assists, but the potential always seemed to be there.

If the Flyers could manage to be a little patient with their young center, the development of Konecny seemed like it would be well worth it in the long run.

And when looking at the progress made over the last two seasons (48 goals and 48 assists in 163 games), the future seemed bright for Konecny when it came to being a potential young star on the rise in the City of Brotherly Love.

Now that Konecny is officially locked up after agreeing to a six-year deal worth $33 million, this shows just how much the Flyers believe in the young center to help make the team a serious contender in the Eastern Conference once again.

No one needs to explain to Flyers fans just how frustrating it’s been over the last couple of years to watch this team seem make it seem like they’re going to make a surprise run at the Stanley Cup, only to come up short each time

Even last year when Philadelphia seemed like they were going to pull off the unthinkable by making a last-second run at the postseason despite all of the previous hurdles during the regular season, the team failed to even make the playoffs.

Konecny alone isn’t going to be the major difference when it comes to determining whether the Flyers can return to the playoffs this year, but it certainly was a great move to pull off heading into October.

Since all signs point to Konecny only continuing to get better with experience, Philadelphia certainly came through big with this decision over a new deal for the 22-year-old.
