The Philadelphia Phillies allowed another strong outing by Aaron Nola to go to waste on Friday after falling 11-5 to the New York Mets.

Last weekend, the Philadelphia Phillies failed to provide Aaron Nola the necessary run support during a 3-2 loss to the Miami Marlins in which the star pitcher recorded seven strikeouts in seven innings of action.

Prior to the contest, Nola had been heating up at the perfect time for the Phillies by winning four of his previous five starts, which is exactly what the team needed since the National League playoff race is heating up.

So with a Friday matchup against the recently struggling New York Mets, Philadelphia was hoping to see another strong outing from their beloved pitcher while getting the necessary run support in the process.

From Nola’s perspective, the Phillies couldn’t have asked for a better outing after the pitcher only allowed one run in 6.1 innings of action while striking out seven batters for the second game in a row.

Unfortunately, Philadelphia once again failed to provide Nola with the necessary run support after only scoring once in the fifth inning before New York took over during the final two innings of action.

Allowing the Mets to score five runs in both the eighth and ninth innings in what eventually turned into an 11-5 loss was beyond frustrating for numerous reasons, but nothing more than the fact that Philadelphia allowed another strong Nola outing go to waste.

With the Phillies already in need of earning every win possible during this final month of baseball due to the fact they’re trailing in the standings for a Wild Card spot, Friday should have resulted in an easy win over the Mets.

Instead, Philadelphia will enter the final two games of the weekend feeling even more pressure to avoid losing another series they arguably should have won.

Due to all of the key moves made during the offseason highlighted by signing Bryce Harper, anything short of reaching the playoffs this year will be viewed as a complete bust for the Phillies.

So maybe when Nola takes the mound again next week, Philadelphia will figure out a way to come out on the winning end instead of dealing with another loss against a team they easily should be able to beat.

Otherwise, the Phillies will find it even more difficult to earn one of those two Wild Card spots in the National League since winning the division can already be ruled out.
