3. McCown better option than Kessler

Isn’t it crazy to think about how quickly things can change in the NFL?

At the beginning of the preseason, Cody Kessler seemed to have a legitimate shot at earning one of the roster spots at quarterback for the Eagles to provide some insurance behind Wentz.

Throughout his career, Kessler has struggled to find a consistent home in the NFL, but his experience alone made it seem like things would finally work out in Philadelphia, that is until he suffered a concussion in Week 2.

As a result of the Eagles losing Kessler on top of Nate Sudfeld suffering a broken wrist the week before, the Eagles would eventually convince Josh McCown to come out of retirement.

Thanks to some impressive play days after signing, McCown will now enter the first game of the 2019 season as the No. 2 quarterback for Philadelphia behind Wentz while Kessler is the odd-man out.

Fair move or not, the Eagles need to make whatever moves work out best for the team, and in comparison, McCown is clearly the much better option over Kessler.

McCown’s veteran experience alone makes this decision well worth it for Philadelphia, and even when Sudfeld is healthy enough to return, don’t be surprised if he remains in the No. 2 spot just to be extra cautious.
