2. Cody Kessler

Isn’t it crazy to think about how Cody Kessler most likely would have earned a spot on the roster if it weren’t for all the Eagles backup quarterbacks dropping like flies this offseason?

After Philadelphia lost Nate Sudfeld to a broken wrist on his non-throwing hand in the first game of preseason, Kessler was knocked out the following week due to a concussion.

As a result of the two injuries, the Eagles convinced Josh McCown to come out of retirement to provide some extra insurance to the quarterback position.

Right away, McCown looked like a great fit running Philadelphia’s offense when taking on the Baltimore Ravens in Week 3, and all of a sudden appears to be the No. 2 quarterback behind Wentz heading into the team’s Week 1 battle against the Washington Redskins.

Since the Eagles clearly aren’t going to move on from Sudfeld unless a trade takes place, moving on from Kessler seems like the only choice for Philadelphia by the end of Saturday.

Unfair or not, the Eagles need to do what’s best for the team, and it doesn’t make sense to keep this many quarterback on the roster since there are plenty of other positions that could use Kessler’s spot.
