While the Philadelphia Eagles have been linked to a potential landing spot for Jadeveon Clowney, they better hope the star defender doesn’t end up on the Washington Redskins.

For weeks, there’s been plenty of speculation over the possibility of the Philadelphia Eagles acquiring Jadeveon Clowney from the Houston Texans, but if the star defender ended up on a different team in the NFC East?

Even though the Miami Dolphins have been expressing interest in the former No. 1 pick, Clowney seems to have made it clear that he would prefer to play for a legitimate contender, which is why the Eagles and Seattle Seahawks have been discussed.

However, it appears Philadelphia isn’t the only team within the division that Houston has spoken with about the possibility of Clowney, as the Texans reportedly reached out to the Washington Redskins as well.

Despite the Eagles and Dallas Cowboys receiving most of the attention within the division as far as favorites to win are concerned, the Redskins are the last team anyone should sleep on.

Keep in mind that if Washington weren’t dealing with so many quarterback issues towards the end of last season, there’s a good chance they would have punched a ticket to the playoffs.

Not to mention, the Redskins’ defense looked pretty dominant at times throughout the 2018 season, and improved enough in the offseason to make it seem like they will be a strong unit once again.

Add another talented player such as Clowney into the mix, and the two meetings with Washington would easily become a little more difficult for Philadelphia, even if he missed all of training camp along with the preseason due to a holdout.

Plus, even though Clowney would technically be playing under the franchise tag for the 2019 season, chances are if a deal were to happen, the Redskins would most likely attempt to sign him long-term when the time is right.

Philadelphia may seem to have the advantage over Washington at the moment in regards to Clowney if the interest is there, but as football fans know, things could quickly change in the NFL.

With the right offer, the Redskins could very well pull the unthinkable by landing Clowney instead of the Eagles.

But for the sake of Doug Pederson‘s squad, here’s to hoping this doesn’t happen, and if Clowney does somehow end up in the NFC East, it ends up being Philadelphia.
