With all of the quarterback injuries from the first two preseason games, the Philadelphia Eagles clearly made the right call resting Carson Wentz.

Based off the injuries from the previous two seasons, it seemed like an easy decision for the Philadelphia Eagles to be extra cautious during the preseason when it comes to resting Carson Wentz.

Between suffering a torn ACL towards the end of the 2017 season along with back issues last year, Wentz will certainly be feeling the pressure in 2019 to show he can in fact stay healthy enough to be the answer under center for the Eagles.

The good news for Philadelphia is unlike this time last year, Wentz isn’t feeling the pressure to rush back to full strength, and has actually looked quite impressive during workouts.

And while it may seem tempting for the Eagles to give Wentz some action during preseason, the previous two games are the perfect example of why Philadelphia shouldn’t risk playing him at all.

It was one thing to lose Nate Sudfeld to a broken wrist on his non-throwing hand in the first preseason game against the Tennessee Titans, but watching Cody Kessler get knocked out of Thursday’s game has put the Eagles in a difficult situation.

Even with Philadelphia convincing Josh McCown to come out of retirement to provide some insurance over the next few weeks, it’s still difficult not to feel concerned over all of the quarterback issues the team has been dealing with this preseason.

No matter what, the Eagles need to continue making sure that Wentz spends the final two games of preseason watching from the sidelines to avoid any unnecessary risky situations.

If the previous two years are any indication of what 2019 has in store, Philadelphia should be a top contender in the NFC once again, and has the talent to earn a trip to the playoffs for a third year in a row.

But without a healthy Wentz, it’s difficult to imagine the Eagles having what it takes to live up to these high expectations, meaning they need to make sure he’s ready to go come September.

So after seeing the injuries that have already taken place with Sudfeld and Kessler, here’s to hoping Philadelphia is smart enough to continue keeping Wentz out of preseason, or it could backfire.
