As long as Carson Wentz manages to stay healthy, the Philadelphia Eagles shouldn’t have any issues at backup quarterback.

While the Philadelphia Eagles continue to prepare for their upcoming preseason battle with the Jacksonville Jaguars, the debate continues over whether the team should bring in another quarterback to backup Carson Wentz.

Unfortunately, the Eagles were one of the latest teams to learn the hard way just how frustrating preseason can be after Nate Sudfeld suffered a broken wrist during Thursday’s loss to the Tennessee Titans, leaving the team with a few questions.

For starters, does Philadelphia feel confident enough in Cody Kessler being able to handle the backup responsibilities to Wentz until Sudfeld is healthy enough to return?

Plenty of interesting names ranging from Sam Bradford to Colin Kaepernick still happen to be available if the Eagles didn’t feel confident enough in Kessler being able to handle the No. 2 job.

But luckily for Philadelphia, Sudfeld’s injury happened to be on his non-throwing hand, and is only expected to keep him out for six weeks, meaning the Eagles just need Wentz to stay healthy to avoid having to fall back on Kessler or some other backup.

Despite how things ended up over the last two seasons with injuries, Wentz has looked sharper than ever this offseason, and could be in for a career year if the former first-round pick manages to stay healthy.

Between already having a solid group of receivers to work with led by Alshon Jeffery and Zach Ertz to bringing DeSean Jackson back on board for a second stint, the Eagles are absolutely stacked in the wide receiver department to make life much easier for Wentz under center.

If this were last summer, and Philadelphia was dealing with issues at backup quarterback, this kind of situation would have seemed like a much bigger issue.

But as long as Wentz can manage to stay healthy, and Sudfeld recovers quick enough to only miss a few games at the beginning of the season, well then the Eagles will be just fine without having to sign another backup quarterback.

Wentz staying healthy may seem like a concern as mentioned before based off the previous two seasons, but since the circumstances are much different this time, Philadelphia and their fans really shouldn’t be all that worried.
