5 veteran quarterbacks Eagles should consider after Nate Sudfeld injury
By Dan Parzych
With the Philadelphia Eagles in need of a backup quarterback after Nate Sudfeld’s injury, here are five veterans worth considering.
Thursday’s preseason game for the Philadelphia Eagles was supposed to bring plenty of excitement to the table for Nate Sudfeld since the backup quarterback was expected to see plenty of action with Carson Wentz resting.
Instead, the Eagles find themselves in a difficult situation after Sudfeld suffered a broken wrist on his non-throwing hand during the 27-10 loss to the Tennessee Titans, and will have surgery to repair the injury on Friday.
On a positive note, the good news for Philadelphia is Sudfeld will be back at some point during the regular season, although how the Eagles will get by in the mean time is a different story.
Even though Doug Pederson indicated the backup job is Cody Kessler‘s to lose moving forward, there are plenty of fans who believe the team would be better off bringing another veteran on board just in case.
Sadly, Thursday’s game was the perfect example of why Pederson made the right decision in resting Wentz since preseason always sees too many injuries take place, and it’s difficult not to feel bad for Sudfeld when looking at all of the offseason hype.
After Nick Foles departed for the Jacksonville Jaguars, the preseason was supposed to be Sudfeld’s time to shine, and prove he does have what it takes to be the reliable backup quarterback Philadelphia needs behind Wentz.
For now, all the Eagles can do is be patient, and hope Sudfeld makes a quick recovery.
But since the popular topic of discussion over the next few days will be focused on which backups Philadelphia should consider, here are five names who immediately come to mind.
