With the trade deadline quickly approaching, the Philadelphia Phillies should do whatever they can to land Trevor Bauer.

In a matter of days, the trade deadline will be here for baseball, and while the Philadelphia Phillies appear to be stacked on paper, there’s certainly plenty of room for improvement.

The fact that Philadelphia currently sits in third place in the NL East before before this weekend’s key series against the Atlanta Braves shows just how much the team needs to strongly consider making a move or two before the deadline.

Otherwise, the end of September may arrive, and the Phillies could be sitting their wondering what could have been if they have to watch the playoffs from home, but hopefully that won’t be the case.

So with all this in mind, which players could be in the mix for Philadelphia?

Over the last few days, Cleveland Indians pitcher Trevor Bauer has seen his name discussed in potential trade talks for the Phillies, and while nothing is set in stone at the moment, Philadelphia needs to consider being aggressive here.

Early signs point to Drew Smyly turning out to be a solid addition, but also his performance from last weekend was only one game, and the verdict is still out over whether the veteran was truly in fact worth the risk.

As for Bauer, well the Indians pitcher has put up much better numbers than Smyly, and his winning records dating back to the 2016 season will back it up.

At the moment, Bauer currently sits with a 9-7 record to go along with a 3.49 ERA, providing the perfect example of how great of an addition this could be for the Phillies if they were to seriously pursue the star pitcher.

For a pitcher who is only 28, and under contract through the 2020 season, Bauer could bring plenty to the table for Philadelphia, as the team will need all of the extra help in the world during these final two months in order to secure a playoff spot.

Bauer certainly won’t solve all of the issues the Phillies have been dealing with over the last few months, but at least it would show they mean serious business during this final stretch.

Even if Philadelphia were forced to give up a few prospects as part of the trade, Bauer seems like the kind of player who would make it well worth it, especially if it would help the Phillies win the World Series.
