Any disrespect towards Jordan Howard is hilarious to think about
By Dan Parzych
The Philadelphia Eagles have every reason in the world to be excited about Jordan Howard’s first season with the team.
Back in March, the Philadelphia Eagles pulled off an incredible move by acquiring Jordan Howard from the Chicago Bears to provide the offense with another reliable weapon to work with in the backfield.
Even though injuries played a major role in some of the struggles surrounding the ground game in 2018, it was no secret how inconsistent some of the Eagles running backs were last season, which is why there was plenty of excitement surrounding Howard.
Some football fans questioned why a team like the Bears would be willing to give up such a talented player like Howard up in a trade when taking into consideration he’s totaled 3,938 yards from scrimmage to go along with 25 total touchdowns.
But with Howard entering the final year of his rookie contract, chances are the running back’s asking price would have been too high for Chicago, meaning it was better to at least get something in return from Philadelphia than nothing at all.
Does this mean Howard should be expecting a hefty payday from the Eagles when the time seems right? Since Howard has yet to even participate in a preseason game, there’s no reason to jump that far ahead just yet.
However, one thing is for sure, which is Howard is a talented running back that should help Philadelphia in a big way during the 2019 season to put the backfield in much better shape than a year ago.
Like most players, Howard already has a few doubters in the City of Brotherly Love, but on a positive note, it was great to hear former Eagles star Jon Ritchie stick up for the running back on WIP, and rant about how tired he is of the disrespect.
Leave it to Ritchie to remind football fans that Howard ranks third in the NFL since 2016 when it comes to most yardage, and this is just one of many reasons as to why any disrespect towards the Eagles running back should be considered laughable.
With Philadelphia having a handful of other running backs to help take some of the pressure off such as Miles Sanders and Corey Clement, Howard should be in for a big first year with his new team.
And if this turns out to be the case, maybe any remaining disrespect towards Howard will quickly become appreciation along with putting himself in great position for a bright future in Philadelphia.
