If the Los Angeles Chargers end up trading Melvin Gordon, the Philadelphia Eagles would be just fine without the running back.

A few months ago, the thought of Melvin Gordon ending up on a team like the Philadelphia Eagles seemed intriguing for obvious reasons, but the circumstances have changed for Doug Pederson‘s squad.

After a difficult rookie campaign in 2015 that resulted in the Wisconsin product failing to find the end zone even once, Gordon has worked his way into becoming one of the league’s over the last three seasons.

Don’t believe so? Well, the 38 trips to the end zone in 41 games since the 2016 season shows how special of a player Gordon has become, and it’s been amazing to see the former first-round pick bounce back from that disastrous rookie outing.

With that being said, Gordon has been quite the popular topic of discussion in the news over the last few days after making it clear that he would holdout from training camp without a new contract.

In other words, if the Chargers decide to ignore Gordon’s request, and the running back skips out on camp, a trade could very well happen.

First off, it’s easy to understand the frustration surrounding Gordon, who is entering the final year of his rookie contract, and is scheduled to make $5.6 million in 2019.

Right away, any football fan will easily point out that Gordon’s production doesn’t even come close to the amount of money the running back will be making this upcoming season, but also have other players such as Austin Ekeler who would be more than willing to step up.

Early on in the offseason, the Eagles seemed like a team that would be on the phone with the Chargers immediately if Gordon were available after looking at some of the struggles towards the end of last season in the backfield.

But between acquiring Jordan Howard in a trade along with all of the hype surrounding Miles Sanders following the draft, Philadelphia seems to be much better off at running back without Gordon part of the picture.

Sure, it would have been great to bring on a talented running back like Gordon to provide Carson Wentz another weapon to work with on offense, but Eagles fans should prefer the new duo of Howard and Sanders.

Plus, with Gordon looking at a new contract now, just think of all the money Philadelphia will be saving by avoiding any sort of interest in the Chargers star running back that can be used for other positions moving forward.

So with all this in mind, Eagles fans should be thrilled to see Howie Roseman and company stick with their current group of players instead of pushing to land Gordon, because it just doesn’t seem worth the hassle.
