Phillies at Braves 2015

In 2015 the Phillies would travel to Atlanta to face the Braves and in a season where Philadelphia only had 27 wins going into July fourth fans weren’t too optimistic, and they were proven right. The Phillies would finish last in the division and dropped this game to the Braves 9-5.

Not only was this loss a tough one coming from a divisional team, but Atlanta also started the game with a five to nothing score after just two innings. In the third Phillies would put up a run to not get shutout just to be met by four more runs by Atlanta in the fourth.

In a simply catastrophic outing starting pitcher, Kevin Correia pitched for just 3.1 innings but managed to allow 10 hits and nine earned runs with three pitchers from the bullpen not allowing a single run. Although it wasn’t enough Darin Ruf had himself a day for Philly posting three RBI’s while Cesar Hernandez and Odubel Herrera batting a run in each.

Braves at Phillies 2016

After a tough loss in 2015, the Phillies got their chance at revenge in just one season hosting and beating the Braves 8-2 on July, 4th 2016.

Although it was a much different Atlanta team coming into the game with only 28 wins, still the win provided a refreshing feeling, beating a division rival on a day full of fireworks. The Phillies would get a strong 7.2 innings pitched from starter Jared Eickhoff who allowed five hits; two earned runs, three walks, but with eight strikeouts.

David Hernandez and Severino Gonzalez combined for just 1.2 innings pitched, one strikeout, and one hit. The two hottest bats of the day belonged to Maikel Franco and Odubel Herrera who each had a two-run homer. While they held the long ball titles for the game Cesar Hernandez, Freddy Galvis, and Tommy Joseph each had a single RBI providing some simple in play scoring.
