Phillies at Pirates 2013

In 2013 the Phillies would once again find themselves spending their fourth of July in Pittsburgh taking on the Pirates and leaving with a 6-4 victory.

Although the Phillies had a much worse record with 11 fewer wins than the Pirates. Although the Phillies would go down 2-0  in the third, they answered back with a run in the fifth and four runs in sixth never letting go of the lead from there.

Cole Hamels got the start and went seven allowing one earned run, five hits, zero free bases, and eight strikeouts on the day. Justin De Fratus came in for an inning and allowed three hits with two homers while Papelbon came in to do his thing allowing just one hit in his closing role.

Although the Phillies didn’t go deep at all this game, the team still produced runs with Ben Revere and Carlos Ruiz both having two RBI’s while Kevin Frandsen and Michael Young having one each. Although the Phillies finished fourth in the National League East, July fourth gave them a nice revenge game for 2010’s July fourth loss to Pittsburgh.

Phillies at Pirates 2014

Although Philadelphia got their revenge game, they would once again make a trip to Pittsburgh just to leave with a bitter loss getting beat 8-2. Starting on the mound for Philly was Roberto Hernandez who only lasted 5.2 innings allowing 10 hits and five earned runs with four walks granted.

Justin De Fratus would come in for 1.1 innings allowing one hit, two runs but no earned runs, with just one walk. B.J. Rosenberg would be the last pitcher for the Phillies on the day, coming in for an inning allowing two walks and one earned run.

In the dismal offensive performance for the Phillies, only two players were able to get a hit Ben Revere and Chase Utley who also got an RBI from his one hit.
