Philadelphia Phillies: Fourth of July ten-year recap
Mets at Phillies 2009
Let us start ten years ago when the Philadelphia Phillies took on their division rival New York Mets.
The fighting Phils would take down the Mets 4-1 behind a joint pitching effort from Jamie Moyer, Chad Durbin, J.C. Romero, Ryan Madson, and Brad Lidge, who all combined only allowed six hits. A Philly favorite Jimmy Rollins would produce half of the teams runs with two RBI’s while Shane Victorino and Jayson Werth batted in the other two.
The fourth couldn’t have been better for Philly fans in 2009 with a 3-run win over New York, an important victory that helped secure the top spot in the standings for the Phillies.
Phillies at Pirates 2010
The following season wouldn’t be as friendly for the Phillies who traveled a short distance to Pittsburgh to face the Pirates where they would lose 8-5.
The game was a heart-breaker for the Phillies leading the game from the second to the sixth inning until the Pirates exploded in the seventh to score six runs. The starting pitcher for Philly, Joe Blanton pitched 6.1 innings on the day and let up five earned runs but was still able to strike out seven batters.
After Blanton, Jose Contreras would come in to pitch for 0.1 innings and let up three earned runs. Offensively both teams had nine hits however Pittsburgh had players in better scoring positions, with Garret Jones doing the most for the Pirates with 3 RBI’s.
The Phillies would have small sparks from a few players with five separate players each having a single RBI.
