Lane Johnson should feel extra motivated after being left off top-10 list
By Dan Parzych
Philadelphia Eagles offensive lineman Lane Johnson has every reason in the world to feel frustrated over being left off a top-10 list by Sports Illustrated.
Thanks to his massive size and strength, Lane Johnson has played a major role over the years in helping the Philadelphia Eagles have one of the most reliable offensive lines in the NFL, and expectations will be high once again in 2019.
More than ever, Johnson and the rest of the offensive line will be heavily relied on by the Eagles during the 2019 season as a result of the injuries Carson Wentz has been dealing with over the last two years, but at least there’s no reason for concern.
If anything, Philadelphia has every reason in the world to feel confident in their unit coming through for Wentz to help the former first-round pick return to the level from the 2017 season in which he was playing at a MVP level.
With that being said, some of the folks at Sports Illustrated recently discussed who they believe deserve to be the top-10 offensive lineman in the NFL, and in what came as a major surprise, Johnson was left off the list.
While it was great to see Philadelphia’s own Jason Kelce make the list since the veteran center has clearly made a name for himself as a top center across the league, it was still shocking to see Johnson not even earn a spot in the top-10.
Obviously, one of the best parts about sports is how each individual is entitled to their own opinion, and lists like this one always make for great conversation, but Johnson’s absence on the list was surprising, especially to the Eagles veteran lineman.
The good news for the Eagles and fans in general is if there’s anything to take away from Johnson’s take on this, it would be this can be used as motivation moving forward.
After back-to-back playoff appearances along with winning the Super Bowl during the 2017 season, Johnson isn’t the only member of Philadelphia who will be feeling extra motivated in 2019 to help the Eagles continue being a serious threat in the NFC.
And as far as Johnson is concerned, after earning Pro Bowl honors over the last two seasons, it’s safe to say increasing that streak to three years shouldn’t be an issue for the Oklahoma product if he manages to stay healthy.
