Goran Dragic is the last player the Philadelphia 76ers should want from the Miami Heat in a potential trade involving Jimmy Butler.

Whether Philadelphia 76ers fans want to hear it or not, the last couple of days have seen talks heat up over the possibility of the team pulling a sign-and-trade with the Miami Heat for Jimmy Butler.

Nothing is set in stone at the moment, but with free agency officially kicking off Sunday night, concern seems to be building up over the thought that Butler may not actually return to the Sixers, despite the fact they can offer the star forward the most money.

Otherwise, it seems like an announcement claiming Butler was returning to Philadelphia would have already happened by now instead of other scenarios such as the Heat and Houston Rockets taking place.

On a positive note, as frustrating as this Butler situation has been at times this offseason, at least the Sixers continue to have the advantage over teams like the Heat and Rockets since they can sign Butler without having to worry about clearing salary cap space.

With that being said, Philadelphia may also face the difficult scenario of realizing that Butler would in fact prefer to join one of these two teams, meaning a sign-and-trade would almost become a “better than nothing” situation.

As far as Houston is concerned, the Rockets have already indicated they would be willing to offer players like Clint Capela or Eric Gordon in potential deals if needed to give them a better chance of landing Butler.

For the Heat, Josh Richardson or Justise Winslow seem like two players that Philadelphia would almost need to demand be part of any potential deal.

But when it comes to the one player the Sixers could easily do without, Goran Dragic needs to be on the top of that list.

Over the weekend, Dragic saw his name thrown into the mix when it comes to potential players that could be traded to Philadelphia if the sign-and-trade with Butler were to take place.

Between recently turning 33 in May along with only playing in 36 games this past season due to a knee injury, Dragic seems like one of those players who may only be good for one or two more years at best, meaning the Sixers would be wasting their time.

Maybe a few years ago, a deal involving Dragic would have been intriguing for a young team like Philadelphia, but settling for something like this while losing Butler would almost seem like a slap to the face for the fan base.

Plenty of players would be worth considering if the Sixers were to end up taking the sign-and-trade approach with Butler, but Dragic should not be one of those individuals.

So for the sake of doing what’s best for the team, here’s to hoping any recent talks surrounding Dragic possibly heading to Philadelphia don’t end up happening since this seems like it would accomplish nothing.
