Despite the injury concerns, the Philadelphia Eagles announced their agreement with Carson Wentz to a four-year extension on Thursday.

When it comes to the Philadelphia Eagles, one of the biggest topics of debate over the last few months has been whether the team would be better off with Carson Wentz, or they should have made the commitment to Nick Foles for the long run.

As Eagles fans know, the team made the tough decision this offseason to allow their former Super Bowl MVP to hit the free agency market before Foles eventually agreed to a hefty new deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Once this happened, it became clear that Philadelphia was committed to Wentz for the long run, although there were some concerns from certain members of the fan base with his unfortunate history of injuries dating back to the 2017 season.

From the torn ACL suffered in late December to his back becoming an issue last season, things haven’t been smooth sailing for Wentz over the last two years, but with the way he’s looked this offseason, the Eagles have every reason in the world to feel confident about 2019.

In fact, after hearing the news that Philadelphia rewarded Wentz with a new extension to keep the former first-round pick around through the 2024 season, this shows just how confident the organization feels about staying healthy being a non-issue.

Football fans can express whatever concerns they want with Wentz’s health based off the last two seasons, but the Eagles would never even consider this type of investment if they thought it would be a concern.

Plus, when looking at how sharp Wentz has looked so far during OTAs, the Philadelphia quarterback looks more motivated than ever to prove any remaining doubters over his health wrong.

Potential wise, this Eagles’ offense is stacked with weapons for Wentz to work with, and if all goes according to plan in 2019, earning a trip to the playoffs for a third year in a row should be no problem.

In fact, there’s already been plenty of talk about Wentz working his way into the MVP conversation in 2019, but there’s no need to jump that far ahead just yet since the Eagles need to take things one day at a time in their quest for a second Super Bowl title.
