While the bats of the Philadelphia Phillies came through on Wednesday, Aaron Nola deserves just as much credit as well for another stellar performance.

A few weeks ago, there were some concerns surrounding Aaron Nola since the Philadelphia Phillies star pitcher wasn’t exactly playing at the high level the team needed him to be on.

Over the last few seasons, Nola has been making a strong case over developing into one of the top young pitchers on the rise across the league, although the month of April for the most part didn’t exactly go smooth.

Even though Nola has yet to officially receive a loss this season, there was a three-game stretch in the first half of April in which he failed to win a single game, and allowed 15 earned runs in 13.1 innings of action.

Based off his ways from the previous few seasons, it was easy to understand why the frustration was piling up for Phillies fans since this was far from the level they were used to seeing Nola play on.

With that being said, Nola seems to have found a way to get out of the funk that took place at times in April by putting together a solid month of May.

Not only has Nola managed to earn a win in four of his last five contests following Wednesday’s 11-4 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals, but Philadelphia as a team happened to win all six games in which their beloved pitcher started.

Plenty of key factors stand out from the month of May in regards to Nola’s level of play, but how about what he’s been able to accomplish over his last three starts?

Including Wednesday’s stellar performance to help beat the Cardinals, Nola has looked unstoppable at times over his last three contests by only allowing five earned runs in 18.1 innings of action while striking out 26 batters in the process.

Whatever Nola did to help turn things around for the month of May, the Phillies would love nothing more than to see this impressive level of play continue heading into June to help the team continue to make the case for being the favorites in the NL East.

Nola’s 4.18 ERA at the moment could certainly use some work, but at least with the 6-0 record to go along with all of the strikeouts, Philadelphia still has plenty of reasons to be excited about the next four months of action before October arrives.
