Before Philadelphia Eagles fans get too excited over the possibility of Carson Wentz taking home MVP honors during the 2019 season, there’s no need to jump too far ahead just yet.

With Nick Foles officially out of the picture after signing with the Jacksonville Jaguars in free agency, all of the attention at quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles will be focused on Carson Wentz during the 2019 season.

Some Eagles fans can say whatever they want over whether they believe Foles should have remained the starter moving forward since Wentz still has a lot to prove, but from a long-term perspective, this was the right decision by the organization.

Staying healthy has been difficult for Wentz over the last two seasons after bouncing back from that devastating knee injury towards the end of the 2017 season along with back issues last year.

But with a full offseason to recover along with the way he’s looked so far during OTAs, Philadelphia has every reason in the world to believe the former first-round pick will bounce back stronger than ever to hopefully help the Eagles earn another trip to the playoffs.

As for some of the potential MVP hype surrounding the quarterback over the last few weeks, well that’s where Eagles fans need to take a bit of a step back since it’s only May, and training camp hasn’t even officially started yet.

Yes, the argument can be made that Wentz most likely would have taken home MVP honors during the 2017 season before suffering that knee injury in December since he had already thrown for 33 touchdown passes with just seven interceptions through 13 games.

Take this into consideration with the fact that Wentz helped put the Eagles in great shape to eventually earn the top seed in the NFC before Nick Foles filled in, and it’s easy to understand why there is some MVP hype surrounding the Philadelphia quarterback.

In fact, some can even make the argument that if Wentz never suffered that knee injury in 2017, chances are he would have been in the conversation for MVP during last season as well.

But since there’s no way of changing the past, and wondering what could have been is simply a waste of time, the main focus surrounding the Eagles needs to be making sure that Wentz stays healthy.

Talent wise, Wentz certainly has the right weapons to work with on offense to put him in great position to be in the MVP conversation, but also it’s time to take a step back to see how things play out over the next few months.

Once Wentz can prove there are no concerns surrounding any sort of injury, and he steps on the field during an actual game while playing at a high level, well then fans can have all of the MVP discussions they want over the quarterback.

Until then, Philadelphia fans just need to take things one step at a time since the last thing they want to do is get overexcited about Wentz being a MVP candidate, only to end up in complete disappointment if he can’t manage to stay healthy.
