If Jadeveon Clowney were to become available through a trade with the Houston Texans, there’s no question the Philadelphia Eagles should strongly consider the move.

While the Philadelphia Eagles have already completed most of their big moves from the offseason thanks to free agency and the draft, it looks like rumors are beginning to heat up over the possibility of acquiring Jadeveon Clowney through a trade.

Despite the Houston Texans placing the franchise tag on the former No. 1 pick back in March, there’s been speculation over the team possibly trading the star defender if the two parties fail to reach an agreement on a potential long-term deal.

Talent wise, Clowney has worked his way into becoming one of the top defensive players in the NFL, and watching him play alongside J.J. Watt tends to cause all sorts of problems for opponents when facing the Texans.

With that being said, the NFL is a business at the end of the day, and as much as Houston would love to keep Clowney around for the long run, they also know his asking price is going to be up there with some of the other top defenders in the league.

In other words, this is one of the reasons why potential trade talks surrounding Clowney are beginning to heat up because if the Texans don’t want to sign him long-term, it would be better to get something in return before next season instead of just letting him walk in free agency.

Does this mean the Eagles should be viewed as a potential landing spot for Clowney? Knowing Howie Roseman, and some of the moves made by Philadelphia over the years, the addition of Clowney certainly can’t be ruled out.

One of the best things about Roseman is how he’s willing to do whatever it takes to put Philadelphia in the best position possible to make a run at the Super Bowl, and worry about contract stuff later on.

Take a look at the 2017 season when the Eagles acquired Jay Ajayi in the middle of the year to put the offense in better position at running back, knowing that he may end up only being the short-term answer, which turned out to be exactly the case.

Just the thought of Clowney teaming up with other star players like Fletcher Cox and Brandon Graham would make Philadelphia’s defense even more dangerous than they already are.

So while there’s nothing set in stone at the moment in regards to the Texans being certain they will end up trading Clowney at some point, if the defender does become available, there’s no question the Eagles should strongly consider the possibility.
