After officially retiring from the NFL over the weekend, Chris Long called Philadelphia the ‘Best sports city in America’ via Peter King’s FMIA.

While Chris Long will now forever be known as an ex-Philadelphia Eagles defensive end after officially retiring from the NFL over the weekend (more on that here), he’s still among the city’s biggest sports fans and biggest sports heroes.

And in a recent (Monday morning) op-ed through Peter King‘s Football Morning in America, the two-time Super Bowl winner, who spent 11 seasons in the NFL spread over three teams, had some very nice things to say about our fair city, calling Philadelphia “(the) Best sports city in America”.

We’ll take it.

Now Long’s feeling shouldn’t be too surprising, as he’s ‘long’ mentioned his love for Philadelphia early and often over his tenure with the Eagles, and credited the city’s passion for why he decided to return to the game in 2018, but still, it’s nice to get a little bit of love from a former player too soon taken from a team.

Who knows, maybe in Week 1, when the Eagles welcome their division rival Washington Redskins to Lincoln Financial Field to kick off the 2019 NFL Season, Long could serve as the game’s honorary captain much like Brent Celek did last season. However, unlike Celek, one would have to expect Long to go all in on the outfit department, maybe recapturing his now-infamous Super Bowl 52 parade ensemble of a retro number 3 Allen Iverson jersey, faux fur jacket, and a WWE championship belt.

How cool would that be?

So even though the Philadelphia Eagles could certainly use the 34-year-old in 2019, as it’s currently anyone’s guess as to which player will step up to fill the DE3 role and the 6.5 sacks he provided (more on that here) it’s at least nice to know that there’s no love lost between Chris Long, the Philadelphia Eagles, and the City of Brotherly Love.
