The Philadelphia 76ers wasted little time announcing that Brett Brown would be back for the 2019-20 season.

As soon as Kawhi Leonard‘s insane shot dropped in to help the Toronto Raptors punch their ticket to the Eastern Conference Finals, Philadelphia 76ers fans wasted little time debating whether Brett Brown deserved to stick around or should be immediately fired.

Rightfully so, Sixers fans were frustrated over the fact that Brown failed to help the team advance further in the playoffs when compared to a year ago, although their efforts against the Raptors wasn’t even close to what it was when facing the Boston Celtics last spring.

Still, after two big acquisitions in the middle of the regular season consisting of Jimmy Butler and Tobias Harris to play alongside Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid, this seemed like the perfect team to help Philadelphia get over the hump in the Eastern Conference playoff picture.

Instead, the Sixers are left wondering what could have been if Game 7 had actually went into overtime, but all that matters moving forward is making sure this team is in the best position possible to continue playing at a high level during the 2019-20 season.

Time will tell when it comes to seeing if players like Butler or Harris end up returning for their first full season with the team, but give Philadelphia credit for putting a rest to the talks surrounding Brown by indicating late Monday that he would in fact return for another year.

Some Sixers fans will obviously be frustrated over this decision since they believe Brown is responsible for the team coming up short the way they did against the Raptors, but also Toronto deserves credit for being that good of a team.

Plus, when taking into consideration that Brown didn’t even have a full season to work with guys like Butler or Harris along with the fact that this was only his second year working with a playoff-caliber team, why would the Sixers give up on him so quickly?

If anything, Philadelphia should be fired up over the possibility of Butler or Harris (or even both) returning so Brown gets a full offseason to work with this impressive group of players.

Coming up short the way they did to the Raptors will leave this team with an awful feeling for months, but at least the Sixers have plenty to look forward to once again next season, especially now that Brown will continue to be part of the picture.

Yes, there have been plenty of times over the years in which Brown has been frustrating to watch, but at the end of the day, he’s still the best man for the job with the Sixers, and hearing how much the players love playing for him will back that statement up.
