After sharing a stadium with Nick Foles in college, ex-Temple Owls RB Ryquell Armstead just became his Jacksonville Jaguars teammate with the 140th overall pick.

Another one.

After watching his Temple Football teammate Rock Ya-Sin become the second overall selection in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft (34th overall), fans in North Philly has another son on his way to the NFL, as the Owls’ bell cow rusher Ryquell Armstead is heading to Jacksonville as the second overall selection in the fifth round (140th overall).

In a way, Jacksonville is quietly becoming Philadelphia South; giving fans a viable AFC team to root for on a bye week/whenever the team faces off against the New England Patriots.

More from Temple Owls

What a good day to be a fan of football.

Now Armstead probably had to wait a little longer to hear his name called than he’d have initially hoped, as his stock was on the rise after running a 4.45 40 yard dash at the combine, faster than players like Miles Sanders who was selected 87 picks earlier, but its hard not to be excited that he ended up in such a great scheme.

And best of all, he’ll be playing with a really great quarterback, as fans in the 215 already know.

That’s right, after sharing a stadium with Nick Foles for the better part of his college career, Armstead will officially become his backfield partner for the foreseeable future; giving the Millville native a legit quarterback to optimize his potential at the pro level.

But where does Armstead fit in with the team moving forward? Well, I guess that depends on what the future holds for Leonard Fournette.

Since entering the NFL, Fournette has been a magnet for controversy, often overshadowing his supreme talent with off-the-field issues. Though he remains among the best rushers in the league when actually healthy and at the correct weight, that’s a task that’s easier said than done, and may never again happen for a Jaguars squad eager to establish a winning culture around their new QB.

Armstead fits that culture to a T.

With enough speed to work inside and out, enough power to fight for extra yards between the tackles, and even an ability to shift inside and play fullback in an uber-power I-formation, there’s a lot to like about Armstead both on and off the field, as fans in the 215 already know.

Next. Rock Ya-Sin to join Nate Hairston and the Indianapolis Colts. dark

So while he may not be sticking around in Philadelphia, which many fans had secretly hoped, it’s nice to know that Temple’s favorite son Ryquell Armstead will be continuing on his football career while playing alongside his old Lincoln Financial Field stadium-mate Nick Foles with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
