During the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft on Thursday, the Philadelphia Eagles watched two new quarterbacks in Daniel Jones and Dwayne Haskins join the NFC East.

With the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys already set at quarterback thanks to Carson Wentz and Dak Prescott, the two NFC East contenders knew Thursday’s NFL Draft could result in two new players at the position joining the division.

While the New York Giants would be potentially looking to find a successor to Eli Manning, the Washington Redskins were in a bit of different situation as a result of Alex Smith’s brutal leg injury last year that will most likely force the veteran to miss all of 2019.

Even after acquiring Case Keenum from the Denver Broncos, the Redskins knew this was only a short-term answer at the position since the offense clearly needed an upgrade after the team fell just shy of a playoff berth last season.

Turns out, both New York and Washington would end up finding potential quarterbacks in the first round after the Giants took a risk on Duke’s Daniel Jones at No. 6 while the Redskins caught a huge break when Ohio State star Dwayne Haskins slipped to No. 15.

All of a sudden, Wentz and Prescott have some youngsters joining the division at quarterback that could make the division even more competitive in the future, although whether that will be the case for 2019 is debatable since both rookies could be watching from the sidelines.

Still, just the fact that New York and Washington were willing to take a risk by using first rounders on these two rookies could be an early indication of how the NFC East could become even more competitive once Jones and Haskins do eventually take over the starting jobs.

At least for the Eagles, there really shouldn’t be that much concern since Howie Roseman and company have done an amazing job at making sure this team is built to seriously contend for years to come, even when Jones and Haskins are ready to go.

Plus, if anything, Philadelphia should have known this was going to happen sooner rather than later for the Giants and Redskins when looking at their previous need at quarterback.
