The Philadelphia Phillies helped Jake Arrieta record his 100th career win on Friday after defeating the Miami Marlins 9-1.

After failing to record his 100th career win last week in a game against the Minnesota Twins, Jake Arrieta was hoping to pull it off on Friday with the Philadelphia Phillies taking on the Miami Marlins.

Not only did Arrieta pull off the accomplishment in amazing fashion, but the 33-year-old pitcher helped the Phillies pull off a much needed 9-1 win over their division rivals during a week that had previously seen better days.

In seven innings of work, Arrieta only allowed one earned run while striking out eight in the process, which was hands down his best performance of the young 2019 season.

Prior to Friday’s game, Philadelphia had been outscored by the Washington Nationals 25-7 in two games to draw some concerns heading into the weekend, especially when it comes to the pitching.

Arrieta’s solid outing against the Marlins obviously isn’t going to solve all of the problems the Phillies were dealing with earlier in the week, but at least it gives the team an extra boost of confidence for the rest of the weekend.

As for Arrieta, the good news is after finally recording that 100th career win, there will no longer be any extra pressure trying to earn the victory since one can only imagine how much this was on his mind since that first start of the year.

While there were plenty of great games by Arrieta during his first season in Philadelphia, it was concerning to watch him finish with a 10-11 record since the addition to the rotation was supposed to help the pitching reach a new level.

Arrieta still has a long way to go when it comes to proving he can play at a high level all season since it’s only been three games, but Friday’s 100th career win was another huge step in the right direction.

Between the recent struggles surrounding Aaron Nola along with the NL East turning out to be more competitive than originally expected, the Phillies will take any extra help they can get from Arrieta moving forward.

Even if Friday’s win came against a Marlins team that has been far from impressive with nine losses over their last 10 games, Arrieta and the Phillies will take it after seeing how this past week went.
