Could the Philadelphia Eagles pull off another trade at running back by acquiring Duke Johnson from the Cleveland Browns?

As the Philadelphia Eagles continue to prepare for the upcoming 2019 NFL Draft, it looks like Doug Pederson‘s team is being linked to another potential trade, with this time involving Duke Johnson from the Cleveland Browns.

Entering the offseason, there were some concerns surrounding the running back position, and rightfully so after looking at all of the injuries the team was forced to deal with, whether it was Jay Ajayi or Darren Sproles.

During the 2017 season when Philadelphia went on to win their first Super Bowl title in franchise history, a strong supporting cast in the backfield played a major role in the success on offense.

And if Pederson can find a way to get the offense to return to that effective level, it’s only going to increase the chances for the Eagles earning another trip to the playoffs next year for a third year in a row.

With that being said, Philadelphia already made a splash by getting an absolute steal in Jordan Howard from the Chicago Bears to provide a major boost to the ground game, but it will be interesting to see if Johnson becomes part of the mix as well.

After Mary Kay Cabot reported a few days ago that Johnson’s representatives asked the Browns to trade the running back, it was brought up again how the Eagles had previously expressed interest in the Miami running back.

Rightfully so, it’s understandable to hear why Johnson would want out of Cleveland since Kareem Hunt and Nick Chubb, but also it would be important for him to understand any potential role in Philadelphia would consist of sharing carries.

Pederson’s mindset of going with the hot hand at running back during the team’s Super Bowl run during the 2017 season ended up working wonders, and it would be amazing to see the Eagles return to that approach in 2019.

Whether Johnson happens to be part of that mix, only time will tell when it comes to Philadelphia, but at least with Howie Roseman, nothing should be ruled out when it comes to this team.

Just look at the previous two seasons, and if the Eagles strongly believe that Johnson could help them make another Super Bowl run, chances are they’re already on the phone with the Browns trying to make this deal happen.
