The Philadelphia 76ers are reportedly signing Greg Monroe on Thursday to provide an extra weapon if needed for the playoffs.

As the Philadelphia 76ers continue to rest Joel Embiid with the hope the star center will be well rested for the playoffs, it looks like the team is making sure they have some extra big men as well with the addition of Greg Monroe.

To say the former Georgetown star has bounced around over the last two seasons would be a huge understatement when taking into consideration since Monroe has seen stints with the Milwaukee Bucks, Phoenix Suns, Boston Celtics, and Toronto Raptors.

However, if all goes according to plan, and Monroe finds a way to contribute to the Sixers to a level where it helps them make a run in the postseason, this is all the team really cares about.

Based off the beginning of his career with the Detroit Lions and Bucks, Monroe was originally viewed as a key big man in the league, which is part of the reason why Milwaukee signed him to a hefty three-year, $50 million deal in 2015.

Still, just because Monroe’s career seems to have gone downhill over the last two years doesn’t necessarily mean there isn’t some gas left in the old tank.

Also, if the Sixers didn’t believe in Monroe being able to help out in some sort of way before this final stretch, would they really waste their time?

When looking at the difficult path Philadelphia is going to have in the Eastern Conference competing for a spot in the NBA Finals, Brett Brown knows the importance of getting any extra help possible at this point.

Monroe certainly isn’t going to solve all the team problems, but for all the Sixers know, a fresh start on a new team once again could be just what he needs to return to the consistent level from a few years ago.

Plus, from an experience perspective, Monroe has a major advantage over some of the younger players that Philadelphia currently has, so maybe this decision will turn out to be better than expected.

Either way, when looking at the Sixers approach this past couple games involving rest to players like Embiid and Jimmy Butler, can the postseason just get underway already?
