Bryce Harper overcame a rough start to help the Philadelphia Phillies remain undefeated by defeating the Washington Nationals 8-2 on Tuesday.

As if the pressure of being the only undefeated team remaining wasn’t already enough pressure for the Philadelphia Phillies, the team knew they would be in for one of their toughest challenges yet during the young 2019 season on Tuesday, mainly because of Bryce Harper.

After signing with the Phillies last month for a whopping 13-year, $330 million, Harper would be playing his first game against the Washington Nationals, the team he spent the first seven years of his career with.

To make things even more challenging for the star outfielder, the Nationals were sending Max Scherzer to the mound, who happens to arguably be one of the top pitchers in baseball.

From fans constantly heckling him to any nerves he was feeling leading up to the contest, Harper knew it was going to be difficult to avoid the extra pressure that came with Tuesday’s game.

Striking out his first two at-bats wasn’t exactly what Harper was hoping for when facing Washington for the first time as a member of Philadelphia, but luckily the outfielder was able to finish things off in one of the best ways possible during the Phillies 8-2 win.

Not only did Harper end up recording three hits in his next three at bats, but his final swing in the eighth inning turned out to be a crushing two-run home run, which also hammers to be his third homer in three games.

Thanks to this home run by Harper, Philadelphia was able to increase their lead to 8-2 before going on to seal the victory, and continue to be the only undefeated team remaining in baseball heading into Wednesday.

Even though it’s only been four games, Harper already seems to be living up to the hype with the Phillies, and watching this team continue to win games the way they have been shows why there is so much World Series hype surrounding this team.

Now that Harper no longer has to worry about the additional pressure of facing his former team for the first time, it will be fun to see if Philadelphia can go for the series sweep on Wednesday before the weekend arrives for another tough battle against the Minnesota Twins.
