Depending on what their running back situation is like before the NFL Draft, the Philadelphia Eagles may want to consider giving Jay Ajayi another chance at running back.

One year after having one of the strongest ground games in the NFL that helped them win Super Bowl 52, the Philadelphia Eagles took a bit of a step back in 2018, although it wasn’t entirely their fault since numerous running backs dealt with injuries.

Unfortunately for Jay Ajayi, the former Boise State star watched his season come to an end early after suffering a torn ACL, putting the Eagles in a tough position for the offseason.

As much as Philadelphia would love to have Ajayi back in the picture, the team knew his injuries were a concern, and when looking at some of the other options at the position, it seemed like they would be better off with another running back.

However, the Eagles could be at an advantage when it comes to Ajayi since there are most likely other teams feeling the same way at the moment in regards to his injuries being a concern.

If not, then why is April only a few days away, and Ajayi is still in search of a new team for the 2019 season?

Just because Philadelphia allowed Ajayi to test the free agency market doesn’t necessarily mean the interest isn’t there since the Eagles most likely took this approach with the mindset of knowing that he may come at a cheaper price down the road.

Assuming most teams continue to be cautious over spending too much money on Ajayi with his history of injuries, this could result in Philadelphia convincing the running back to come back at a cheaper price, which would be great for the Eagles.

Philadelphia may have confidence in some of their younger running backs like Corey Clement and Josh Adams taking on larger roles during the 2019 season, but having an experience veteran like Ajayi never hurts.

Of course, the main factor will be Ajayi’s health, and whether the Eagles would feel confident in giving him another shot with his return date still up in the air at the moment.

Ajayi may feel on schedule to return by the start of the regular season, but also at the end of March, it’s still way too early to tell, which is another factor the Eagles may use to their advantage if the interest is in fact there.
