D.K. Metcalf deserves consideration from Philadelphia Eagles following NFL Combine
By Dan Parzych
If the Philadelphia Eagles are looking for a wide receiver in the upcoming draft, D.K. Metcalf deserves consideration following a strong outing at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis.
With the Philadelphia Eagles having a few questions at the wide receiver position beyond Alshon Jeffery heading into the 2019 season, D.K. Metcalf was always considered a potential prospect to consider heading into the NFL Draft following a successful career at Ole Miss.
However, it’s safe to say that when it comes to the biggest winners from the NFL Combine in Indianapolis this weekend, Metcalf ranks near the top of the list after watching the way he blew scouts and fans away with his performance.
From his massive size and strength to showing off his blazing speed by running a 4.33 time in the 40-yard dash, to say Metcalf’s draft stock is on the rise would be a huge understatement for the wideout.
Metcalf obviously still has a long way to go since despite a strong outing in Indianapolis, there is no guarantee that he will go on to succeed at the NFL level. But if his time with the Rebels, and worth ethic from Indianapolis is any indication of what Metcalf could do in the NFL, there’s no question he would be worth the risk.
That’s where Philadelphia could come into play, as Doug Pederson‘s squad is expected to look at all options to help improve the wide receiver position, whether it happens to be withe Metcalf or someone else.
In recent weeks, the Eagles were projected to focus on running back or the defensive side of the football with the No. 25 pick in the first round of this year’s draft, but after looking at the attention Metcalf is rightfully earning, they may want to weigh this possibility.
Even if Philadelphia were to consider the possibility of trading up a few spots to make sure they landed Metcalf, this could be worth it in the long run since the team will be facing heavy pressure once again to return to the playoffs for a third season in a row.
As mentioned before, the Eagles are already fortunate enough to be set with a top wideout in Jeffery along with a few other reliable weapons in Zach Ertz and Nelson Agholor, meaning Metcalf would most likely benefit from seeing additional passes thrown in his direction.
From now until the end of April, Philadelphia will be keeping themselves busy evaluating all of the talent possible to put them in the best position possible to be in for another successful draft in Nashville.
Time will tell when i comes to determining if Metcalf turns out to be one of those players who receives strong consideration, but if the Eagles were smart, they would keep an extra eye on the wideout after Indianapolis.
