Looks like a fresh start with the Philadelphia Phillies will result in Bryce Harper going through a number change.

As the party continues in the City of Brotherly Love over the Philadelphia Phillies finally landing the free agent they spent months hoping for in Bryce Harper, most fans wish they could fast forward to Opening Day so the 2019 season can officially get underway.

Over the last couple of weeks, there had been plenty of frustration over all of the rumors related to Harper, and whether he would end up joining the Phillies or simply join a different team out on the West Coast to leave the fan base absolutely crushed in disappointment.

Luckily, none of that matters anymore since Harper finally made a decision by agreeing to come to Philadelphia on a whopping 13-year, $330 million deal with no opt-out and no-trade clause, meaning the star outfielder is going to be around for most likely the remainder of his career.

Since Harper’s former team happens to play in the NL East with the Phillies, one can only imagine how the Washington Nationals and their fan base is feeling at the moment when looking at how many times the team will see their former star player moving forward.

In fact, it’s safe to say what was already an intense rivalry between Washington and Philadelphia has the potential to hit a whole new level beginning this season since things are going to be heated more than ever.

Rightfully so, most Phillies fans just assumed that Harper would stick with his usual jersey number (No. 34) from all the years spent with the Nationals. Turns out, Harper will going in a different direction by starting fresh with a completely new number, which in a way could be viewed as a new beginning to what should be an incredible journey in Philadelphia.

Now that Harper’s jersey number with the Phillies is official, one can only imagine how crazy jersey sales are going to be over the next couple of weeks since this seems to have the potential to be one of the hottest selling items of 2019.

Philadelphia has waited a long time for this high level of excitement heading into a new season since the last couple of years have been filled with plenty of disappointment, but there’s no question that Harper made it worth the wait.
