Philadelphia Phillies become instant World Series contenders after Bryce Harper signing
By Dan Parzych
After all of the waiting, the Philadelphia Phillies finally got the player they wanted in Bryce Harper.
For months, Philadelphia Phillies have been more than patient waiting for the organization to make the announcement that Bryce Harper would be joining the team for the 2019 season.
After all of the waiting, and constant worrying over whether it would actually happen, the news finally became official on Thursday after reports indicated that Harper has in fact chosen the Phillies for his next team.
Even as early as Wednesday, there was speculation about the San Francisco Giants getting back into the conversation with the Los Angeles Dodgers over getting in on the Harper action at the last second with better offers and playing circumstances.
Now that it’s finally happening, all of that stress from the last couple of weeks can finally be put aside, because the Phillies just became instant World Series contenders in the National League.
Some fans may not have wanted to admit this, but even if Harper ended up going to another team like the Giants or Dodgers, the Phillies still would have been considered big winners from the offseason from their previous moves, such as bringing on Jean Segura and Andrew McCutchen.
However, there’s no question that the addition of Harper will take the potential surrounding this team to a whole new level for the 2019 season and beyond since he was arguably the top free agent from this year’s class for a reason.
Over the last couple of years, there was plenty of speculation that Philadelphia would be in for a big offseason free agent wise after looking at how much money they would have to spend on some of the best talent available.
The last few weeks have been filled with plenty of frustrating moments after all the rumors swirling about what could happen with Harper, but now that he’s officially coming on board, all of this seems totally worth it.
Just like that, the Phillies have emerged as one of the strongest contenders in the National League now that Harper is part of the picture, and fans can’t wait to see this new lineup in action once Opening Day finally arrives in the spring.
